What I actually got was a teenage angst-fest melodramatic love-triangle with a super confusing plot and flimsy world. Now, what I thought I was going to get from this book was a well written female protagonist that was very introspective about death and humanity and I figured she'd join The Guard and fight "evil" spirits to protect humanity, but a mishap would get her trapped in a human body- possibly sharing a body with another soul. Maggie wants a promotion though, she wants to become a member of The Guard, a group which protects humans. Maggie is a Collector, a spirit which collects souls and take them over to the other side via Gate Seven. The world building was pretty damn weak (more on that in a minute) and I wasn't sure if the main character was meant to be deliberately unlikeable or if it was just shoddy writing. The writing wasn't terrible I guess, nothing really jumped out as being especially good. This was so boring that I think I fell asleep with my eyes open whilst reading it.
